Thermopanel Kit Homes has been trading for 33 years continuously in Adelaide, South Australia. Originally manufacturers of patented brick and log homes, the company is now primarily manufacturing project log and cedar homes. All timber joinery, windows and doors are made in-house to suit the modular wall panels and many different styles can be accommodated.
The home pictured above is a recently finished loft home with a 45 degree pitched roof built on a steeply sloping block. The walls are Thermopanel’s ‘Super Log’ profile finished with ‘Intergrain cedar’ water-based timber sealer.
Thermopanel’s log and cedar homes use a factory manufactured wall module [standard size being 1200 x 2400mm] which is load-bearing. Once erected, the modules carry the roof loads. Double-storey and loft-style homes are just as easily accommodated. These unique wall modules are patented and 3,000 individually designed homes have been supplied to owners both within Australia and overseas.
The outside of the triple layer walls is constructed from machine-finished CCA treated pine logs or cedar shiplap profile, and the centre is closed cell sprayed, CFC-free polyurethane foam, which makes the most effective barrier to air and water. The inside wall facing [once plumbing and wiring have been installed] is plasterboard, or tongue-and-groove pine linings.
The system of construction is simple and can be either owner-built or erected rapidly by local trades. Once the floor is down, a 12-square home can be erected to wall-top stage using four people in about seven hours. Lock-up stage is normally achieved in five days.

The company’s thermo panels also offer great thermal efficiency and have one of the highest thermal rating of any wall system currently available in Australia – Rating 3.5.
